Toby's story
WHY I STARTED VARSITY SK8
I'm Toby Berenson, a high school student and skateboarder. I've been skating for twelve years. At my school I helped start a skateboard club and worked to secure funding for boards, helmets, pads, and ramps. That experience showed me how great it is for students to have a safe, organized place to skate after school.
Varsity SK8 comes from that firsthand experience. Right now, I want to help other students in New York start clubs at their schools. As clubs grow over time, the goal is to turn them into teams and for skateboarding to be a recognized New York high school sport with competitions at some of the 40 NYC skateparks.

You do not need to have everything figured out before getting started. Varsity SK8 is developing resources to help students find an advisor, approach administrators, recruit members, create safety rules, request equipment, and organize.
